So you want a piranha? If considering check out this article!

Here is something i put together a while ago for everyone who is impressed by these fish and the species, but uncertain abotu them and what piranha to buy, and/or why.

well your maybe wondering on what piranha(s) to get and why??

Those who are unfmailiar with this topic sit back and read about it .

Pygocentrus, or piranha able to be safely housed together, providing proper enviornment and water parameters, and most important adequate space. Pygos consist of P. Nattereri,P. Ternetzi, P. Piraya and P. Caribe (and some species rare and exotic i will not cover, due to lack on information on specie or not scientifically documented)These specie can live together as juveniles with about 10-15 gallons of water per fish,as they approach maturity they should have at least 35 gallons to 40 gallons per fish. Again these fish can live together, but aggression is not uncommon.Well fed piranha and piranha in stable parameters (water) are less common to show signs of aggression. Now a shoal is very nice, great color feedin is a definite site, although this is a problem with pygos, unless fed small chunks they tend to tear and shred there food. A shoal of these guys all shredding and freznying on there prey or filet etc will dirty up your water alot,in the end meaning more maintenance, more looking after (for aggression etc) and more chance of disease and sickness spreading through out your tank and all your fish. Dont get nervous just keep up on very good water changes and always remove immediatly that is left, well 3 minutes is the regimen i use. And a nice water change every week, usually after feeding is best.

Serrasalmus,or a piranha who should be kept alone ,unless experienced in cohabition of this specie piranhas (this should not be attempted by anyone but experienced hobbiest). So one fish in your whole fish tank,is it worth it?? Absolultely. From the S. Rhombeus, S. Sanchezi, S. Elongatus , and many many more, all these fish are different in thier own ways ,but maintain to have one thing in common, within the home aquaria it is definitly not suitable to be housed together! Why you ask? Dont they live in the wild together and "school/shoal" ?? Yes and No.unlike Pygocentrus, Serraslamus in the home aquarium do not make good tank mates. On the other hand, Serra specie water is very easy to maintain, being only one fish. Some serras can be kept together suitably in a large aquarium it has been done. They are also alot laid back , maybe the group effect isnt there so the frenzy is not as great, non the elss are stunning specie and im caught in the middle myself ,so i guess you should have some of each if your on the same page!

i hope this info helped just contact me for more in detail information per specie or basic questions, or as i encourage post your questions in public and i can answer them for all viewers to see and learn from, thanks guys.
