Perhaps I am being impatient..Have had the new tank set up for about 3 weeks now.tank is set up with clay potsand plants.females have super red bellies(which I have learnerd one they are female and 2 the brighter it is the more redy she is.I have noticed 2 have paired off.Somewhat territorial but not too bad yet.No rearranging. They are about 3". Only thing I have not checked sicne I placed themin the tank is PH.Everything else seems almost perfect.I heard adding some cool water to the tank will get them started?Or am I just being impatient?

Re: Breedign Convict Cichlids
Just give it time, I bought a male and female and within two weeks they breed.
Also, I only feed them once a day nuthing else. You probably will have to pull the second female out
when the other lays eggs, and possibly the female that lays the eggs. My pair went at it a good bit, but
the female held her ground. The male can kill the mother after she lays her eggs.

Re: Breedign Convict Cichlids
No problem, also try giving them some pellets with high protein and turn the temp up a little.

Convicts
Mine always breed right after a cold water change around 75 degrees from a temp of 79-81 ish. Do the water change at night and do this a couple times aweek there will be eggs soon enough.

Re: Breedign Convict Cichlids
OK..So you all will get a laugh out of this.I turned the tank temp up to 80 both pairs seemed really aggressive towards eachother. So I moved 1 pair to my Red tank with the intentions they would be food.I did this about 2 weeks ago.I notived today the pair we acting really aggressive.Sure enough.EGGS! Right on a leaf.I left well enough alone.Played a little Xbox. About an hour later kids got home from school was telling trhem about the eggs.Went to show them. The P's ate the male convict(I assume bc he was showign so much aggression) and the female is still standing her ground with a pretty big gash on her side from the p's.At least I knwo I haven't done anythign wrong.but just last week in the P tank I did about a 50% water change and cleaned very well bc my hubby was coming home from Iraq and I wanted water tip top quality.*SIGH* Water change is due in my breeding tank.Keep your fingers crossed after the water change they lay some eggs.Or I can save a little of the fry from my P tank.
