Thought I would share my other fun thing like to do besides fish stuff. I like cars woot. Old new anything really. New 4cy stuff so easy to build and make gobs of power. Fwd takes suspension work lots of it to get out of the hole. Here is my naturally asperated 2.0 . Have a turbo car that does 12.30's 110mph havn't gone to the track yet this year need to pick up a new axle.

    My other hobby. Empty track

Post by pboost on Fri 03 Jul 2009, 16:20

Honesty it is the best bang for the buck 2k invested in the car total with motor work cam head exc... My dad has seriously come around to the tuner cars. The red car in my avatar is my turbo car so much fun but mostly drive at the track since it isn't street freindly like the silver car is street car. Once was like you can't make them launch like a v8 rwd . lol All in all its fun anyway i put it winning or loosing but i beat 4 cars that day. did run a best of a 13.4 couple weeks ago with the 8 inc slicks. pretty respectable some old guys dig it at the track. some don't even look.

Really respectable for 2.0 sohc! Some people tend to be closed minded at the track,..
make em change their mind when you beat em:) My choice are muscle cars but i also have
a 78 Datsun 280z in the worxs, for my son. My daily driver, a 94 Dodge Dakota w/ 3.9mag
would easily beat any small block i've owned though:)LOL,..you're right,..low $$, easy
to build, and fun! Hopefully the 280z isn't too much fun for a 15yr old:)

Post by pboost on Sat 04 Jul 2009, 14:18

Muscle cars are very sweeet just very costly to restore and do them correctly. So jealous of the 280 those were the poor mans corvette at that time. Very robust cars for drag or road racing. Nice dude.

I changed the wastegate, big blow off valve, 3" custom up pipe and downpipe, 3" exhaust pipe all the way back. Bigger injectors, fuel pump, Stage 3 clutch, bigger intercooler. Motor had too much power. It would torque steer 3 - 4 lanes over when tromping on it making full boost. Smoke tires all 5 gear. It was sweet! I miss that car. i sold it to a friend of mine he's go it doing high 9's now.

So i was doing some searching and found they make kits to drop in
a small block 350 in 280z's,..whattya think? Think the original
inline 6 has more potential or look into the swap?

hmmm I think that either motor is great for that car. That inline 6 is a rock solid motor from what i hear they are long lasters and have great long torque band. If it were me i would keep the 6 and give it a fresh build, and some nice parts and i think you would be more than satisfied with it.

Also if down the road you want to add some power there are countless turbo kits that are cheaper than the 350 swap and could make just as much power of the small block, and still have the smooth idle and great driveability and economy if the hammer isn't down .
