Re: DIY Sump info please?
Here's a few pics of the last two I make. Ones a small sump on a 20 gallon high which I drilled in the bottom back corner and build a overflow box. The other is a trickle filter that I had on my 120. I'll look to see if I still have pics of my double sump I ran on my 220 when it was salt.
I used media filters in the top, bio-balls in the second, pot scrubbers in the third, and lava rocks and return pump in the tank on the bottom.

Re: DIY Sump info please?
Yes sir, four 1" bulk heads. If you wanted to go this route and your tank isn't drilled you could use a durso pipe or overflow box. Drilling the tank isn't hard thou. I think I paid $60 for the bit, solution to keep it cool while drilling and some o-ring + shipping. I have drilled 12 hole with it and its still sharp.
I used a stackable shelf with prefilter in the top, bio-balls in the second, plastic pot scrubbers in the third, and my return pump with lava rock in a 30 gallon long on the bottom.

Re: DIY Sump info please?
If you can take a pic of the location of the holes. From the looks of the pump and the size of the holes he might of had it setup as a close-loop system. More so used for marine/reef tanks, but can be setup for freshwater with a sump. Just a little extra work.
Pics would help out alot -- of holes.

Re: DIY Sump info please?
Well I measured the holes drilled in to the tank and they are 2.5" diameter. Each bulkhead inside diameter is 2" and has a tube that would reach near the top of the tank. This tank has two 2.5" holes drilled. One hole in one corner of the tank and the other on the opposite side of the tank. you might be able to see the hole in the picture of the glass on my other post on here "280 gallon tank". the holes are drilled on that top layer of glass closest to the wall. If i can get of hold of this guy i know that is getting out of the fish store business, he might still have a 90 or 100 gallon sump tank already setup for me for like $60

Re: DIY Sump info please?
Sounds good man. You have a reef ready tank with the built in overflows and durso pipes. At the top of the overflo boxes you should have slits where the water goes in and feeds water to the pipe which inturn feeds the water down to the sump. Now when the power goes out the water will continue to flow into the overflow until the water level gets lower and it will stop.
I will write it up in one of the section so it will be easier for everyone to find the info if they ever want to set up a sump.
Also, you acn send me a pm which will send me a email if you have questions also. Thats what we are all here for and I (DON'T) mind helping you all if I can. :)
You should take pics as you go along, this is going to be a Kick --- setup your are getting ready to setup.
