Madagascar Hissing Cockroach CareSheet
These large, wingless cockroaches can produce a loud hissing sound to scare away predators. In my opinion, these are the best "pet" cockroach. They are very interesting, common, and cheap additions to any collection, as well as great food items for large tarantulas, and reptiles. They can be raised in large numbers in a matter of months, yet are not a pest species. They have been used as "scary" and "creepy" effects in movies for many years as well. The photo to the left compares two adult cockroaches. Notice the size difference between the male (on the left) and the female (on the right).
