Re: my diy turtle basking area
hey thanks,
yeah it was a 10 gallon aquarium with a broken glass side piece I was gonna ditch it then decided to come up with this. lol alot of rocks to silicone on there man. I got to scrape the loose silicone off there when it fully dries so it will look better.

Re: my diy turtle basking area
Cam,
Thamks,
yup all by himself in there. I will have to upgrade to a 125 if its a female. if its a male it can live in the 55. females get huge some up to 14' in diameter.

Re: my diy turtle basking area
yep,
they get huge! if female. I got it from petstore and didnt know much about it I should of obviously researched but I liked it and the petstore guy said it would do good its life in a 55-75 and thats true if its a male but he didnt mention females lol anyhow sliders are more suited for ponds and arent the best to keep in aquariums but lots of people do and mine is gonna always stay inside as well id be afraid something would happen to it outside. its about maybe 2 1/2 inches but you measure from right behind there head strait back towards there tail. you dont measure them by diameter.
also I am getting ready to modify the light fixture in there. I dont like how it looks and I think I have found a way to mount it in there that should look good when I am done atleast im hoping lol

Re: my diy turtle basking area
I love it!
True about the space/size tanks they need. I'm already making plans/getting ideas about how I will be houseing my 4 RES. I also will keep mine inside for both safty reasons for them and also because they are so fun to watch and interesting. You get to see more while they're underwater. You can't see anything underwater in a pond.

Thanks, and great point, turtles will not be able to get close to the edge to escape as of right now. right now they are hatchlings pretty much about the size of a fifty cent piece but no they cannot escape the steps are pretty far from the tank trim even though the pic doesnt look it. I am however going to make some side rails within probably the next year.

Thank you Mike I really appreciate that. yeah those suction cup turtle docks work so so I do not care for them really because once a turtle like a slider or a map or something obtains adult size then they tend to not want to float.
I actually have 3 turtles now lol very addicting creatures. I have the slider, a southern painted and now a new mississippi map turtle I got for my birthday lol.
Again thanks for the kind words they seem to really like it so far just taking some time for them to get used to it. I will also post a pic of the map turtle hatchling for ya to check out....Shaun
